  1.     This version of MacFormula fixes a few bugs in
  2. earlier releases, and offers a few major enhancements.  For 
  3. instance, MacFormula will no longer choke trying to find 
  4. the exact mass of sulphur.
  5.     You can now modify the values of the elements that
  6. MacFormula uses to find the formula weight of a
  7. string (Yippee!).  You can also enter your own symbols (like 
  8. D(ueterium), Ph(enyl), Me(thyl), etc).  I hope you enjoy 
  9. this feature.  Total symbols, including the periodic table 
  10. may not exceed 150.  This is explained further in “Creating 
  11. your own symbols.”
  12.     MacFormula will now calculate the elemental 
  13. analysis for all of the elements in your formula (up to a 
  14. total of 20).
  15.     The source code for MacFormula has been totally
  16. rewritten.  As a result, MacFormula now runs a bit 
  17. faster.

  19. Known Bugs
  20.     •  This is more of an anoyance than anything, but if an 
  21. edittext item is hilited, or if the blinking cursor is not 
  22. at the end of the string, and <CR> or <RETURN> is hit 
  23. instead of the “Calculate” button, MacFormula will 
  24. return “Bad Input” as the formula weight.  This is because I 
  25. am using TransSkel library routines and they don't allow 
  26. interception of dialog events for modeless dialogs.  
  27. Really...it's not my fault.  This will not happen to you if 
  28. you don't hit <CR> or <RETURN> twice in a row without typing 
  29. anything, or if you move the blinking cursor to the end of 
  30. the string after making an insertion in the middle of the 
  31. string.  It will never happen if you always use the mouse to 
  32. press the “Calclulate” button.

  34. Future Plans
  35.     So far no one has contacted me concerning any ideas or 
  36. items they would like to see implemented in MacFormula. 
  37. This is probably because they are embarassed that they have 
  38. not mailed in their shareware payment.  Quite truthfully, I 
  39. have received very few payments, when I know that, in fact, 
  40. quite a few people are using MacFormula in their work. 
  41. With that in mind, it is very difficult for me to justify my 
  42. time working to make MacFormula better.  I would like to 
  43. include a provision for parentheses, and perhaps allow a 
  44. user to print out an elemental analysis request form with 
  45. everything filled in.  Whether or not any of these things 
  46. happen is entirely up to you...the user.

  48. Distribution
  49.     As before, the standalone version of MacFormula
  50. can be freely distributed.  However, all versions of 
  51. MacFormula are copyrighted and cannot be sold or 
  52. distributed for profit.  The desk accessory version of 
  53. MacFormula is not shareware.  It is only for the use 
  54. of registered users.  To obtain the desk accessory version, 
  55. follow the instructions in “REGISTRATION.”
